How does the information get to and from my dispatch center and my vehicles?
King mobile data systems are wireless and can use various formats of two-way radio systems as well as GPRS networks.
Can I operate data through my existing mobile radios and radio system?
If your radios were purchased in the last 10 years or so they are most likely data compatible. Although King mobile data systems are compatible with most major radio system formats, some digital trunking protocols do not lend to the use of mobile data. Can I operate data on the same channel as I use for voice?
In many cases the answer would be no. Since data and voice transmissions cannot occur at the same time on a single channel, the transmission of voice will suspend all data transmissions. Therefore all vehicles will be delayed from transmitting or receiving data information at any time while just a single vehicle or base is making a voice transmission. In high volume dispatch environments the data system cannot operate efficiently with these random and sometimes lengthy interruptions. If your business has a low volume dispatch environment then voice and data may be able to share the same channel. King Communications can help you make that determination.
Can I incorporate Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) features with in mobile data system.
Knowing where your vehicles are allows your dispatchers to more efficiently assign the proper vehicle to the job. King uses GPS based vehicle location to provide an accurate picture of your vehicle positions. For instance in the taxi business GPS can be used to allow dispatch software to automatically select the closest available vehicle and dispatch the trip without intervention of the dispatcher. Event based location reporting is most effective i.e., arrive at and depart scene, acknowledgement of work, and other information exchange. AVL can be a major strain on radio system resources if not managed properly.
